Synopsis:
The story begins with Japan's elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, prompting the Japan Football Association to launch a program to recruit high school players who will begin training for the 2022 Cup. Isagi Youichi, a striker, receives an invitation to the program shortly after his team loses its chance to advance to the national championships because he passed to his less skilled teammate—who missed—without attempting to score the winning goal himself.
Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to "destroy losing Japanese football" by introducing a radical new training regime: isolating 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called "Blue Lock" and subjecting them to rigorous training aimed at creating "the world's greatest selfish striker."
