What is Furusato Nozei?
Furusato Nozei is a Japanese system that allows taxpayers to make a donation to a municipality of their choice while benefiting from tax advantages. In return, local authorities often offer local products or exclusive experiences to promote their region.
Toshima has chosen to highlight what makes it famous: otaku culture and cosplay, of which Ikebukuro is now one of the largest centers in Japan.
A complete transformation into your favorite character
The Platinum Plan, available for a donation of 530,000 yen, offers a true immersion into the world of cosplay.
Participants can choose the character they wish to embody and enjoy a complete service including:
- The costume of the selected character.
- Professional makeup done by specialists.
- A professional quality photo session.
- Full retouching of the shots.
- Participation in the cosplay event acosta!, organized in Ikebukuro.
A local initiative, not a national measure
Contrary to some information circulated on social media, this is not a new national tax measure.
This program is an initiative launched in 2024 by the Toshima district to promote tourism, manga culture, and cosplay events organized in the Ikebukuro area.
The objective is to further strengthen the reputation of this area as one of the main places dedicated to fans of anime, video games, and Japanese pop culture.
